The man who invented calculus to compute change in an instant

Isaac Newton was an English physicist and mathematician who, sheltering at home during the plague years, forged both calculus and universal gravitation. He saw that the derivative — the instantaneous rate of a changing quantity — and its opposite, the integral, are inverse operations (the fundamental theorem of calculus), and in doing so built a language for describing nature in equations.
