Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician who, almost entirely self-taught, discovered thousands of formulas by intuition alone. A single letter to G. H. Hardy in England brought him to Cambridge, where he left astonishing results on infinite series, π, and partitions that are still studied today. He died at thirty-two, yet his notebooks remain a rich vein of new discoveries a century on.
